Figure 6-1 is an illustration of how load balancing works on an Oracle RAC system when SCAN is used. It contains 5 callout steps, and one visual presentation of an action. Step 1 is in the center right of the frame, corresponding with step 1 of the preceding description. Step 2 is in the lower left side of the frame, corresponding with step 2 of the preceding description. Step 3 is in the upper right side of the image, corresponding with step 3 of the description. Step 4 is in the upper center of the image, corresponding with step 4 of the description. Step 5 is in the lower center of the image, corresponding with step 5 of the description. There is no callout for step 6 of the description, The client is represented by the image of a person connecting to the database through a terminal, on the left center of the image, and the database instance on node 2 is represented on the lower right side of the image. There is a line between the client and the database instance on node 2, representing the connection between the client and the database.
